_____ OCTOBER 2007 _______________ [Oct. 31st] Gooby update Hey all, some more info's starting to show up about this Gooby business. Turns out it's going to be a part live, part CGI family/action film that's set for wrap-up this December and release in the summer of '08. As for Eugene's role: "It also stars comic Eugene Levy (American Pie) as the boy's eccentric teacher." Yep. Working the eccentricity once more. (Is that a word?) Some useful reports from: - Playback - TV, eh? - Kidscreen - Cynopsis Media [Oct. 24th] Another film in the works: Gooby It's come to my attention that not only does Mr. Levy have Punctured in the works, but he is actually in the midst of shooting Gooby, a feature film being produced by John Calvert and directed by Wilson Coneybeare. Cast member Ingrid Kavelaars gave a bit of info about Gooby during a recent interview: Kavelaars also finished up two seasons of CTV's Whistler and is now filming a movie, Gooby, in the Barrie area. "It stars Eugene Levy, David Scott Elliott and moi," she said. Kavelaars plays a lawyer and mother in a family where the parents have lost touch with their son's needs. He begins to shape his own world and soon one of his stuffed toys is making mayhem. "It comes to life -- by Robbie Coltrane -- and goes amok," she said. That's all I could find... Hm. Talking stuffed toy. Any idea where this is going? [Oct. 20th] SNL shout-out So as I was watching a re-run tonight of the 9/29/07 episode of Saturday Night Live, a lyric caught my ear from the Digital Short that I hadn't noticed the first time around. The short, "Iran So Far" features Andy Samburg singing a hilarious love ode to Iranian leader Mahmoud Ahmadinejad after his visit to the States (played by Fred Armisen) and features back-up by Maroon 5's Adam Lavine and a cameo by Jake Gyllenhaal. Yes. So I heard the lines, "Like Eugene, you got me straight trippin' boo Hope you look at my eyes and say I'm trippin' too" and I thought, could it be? Bringing Down the House reference? And according to almighty Google, and the general internet population, my memory has been affirmed! Thanks technology! Check out the video here on YouTube (while it lasts). Yay for Eugene and his straight trippin' for making it into pop culture! P.S. Punctured is now officially listed on Eugene's IMDb page, and he's on the cast list for the movie page. Looks like some vampire antics are on the way, y'all. [Oct. 8th] Eugene going to get Punctured? Hmm. I happened to see this article from Variety that mentions some movies to be filmed (and marketed) in Taiwan for a new joint production company deal. One of these included a "Shari Hamrick-helmed vampire movie 'Punctured,' with Eugene Levy, Jonathan Silverman and Kelly Hu." On IMDb, there isn't much about it yet (including no cast listing), but it seems to be a comedy flick in the making for 2008. I am intrigued! _____ SEPTEMBER 2007 _______________ [Sept. 23rd] Greetings! and Beta news Good gracious, I haven't updated in a while. There however hasn't been too much to report; there's been more news of Dan the past few months! (Congrats to him, by the way, for getting his Hills after show to the U.S!) Looks like Eugene's just been busy with filming. In any case, it looks like the publicity gears are starting to turn for Beta House, with a DVD release date of December 26, 2007. Here's some more info: - Official site of all American Pie, currently featuring a trailer for Beta - Copy of Universal Studios Press Release - Times of India report - Some apt words from Product-Reviews.net Things have been quite crazy on my end of life, but I hope to get some updates (or at least more frequent check-ins) going on here. The site is by no means dead, so come on back! _____ JULY 2007 _______________ [July 29th] Steve Martin and Eugene Levy...Part of a REAL Wedding This is really more of a Steve Martin news bit than for Eugene, but it was announced today that Steve got married this weekend to his girlfriend, New Yorker's Anne Stringfield. Eugene was one of the guests attending, along with folks like Tom Hanks, Diane Keaton, and best man Lorne Michaels. Martin, being the private type, apparently only told the guests they were being invited to a "party." Surprise! [July 11th] Dating While Married! (Not So) Scandalous!! Remember the charity event Eugene hosted for Hamilton's Shalom Village back in May? Turns out he got a date out of the deal! Read this Spectator article to find out the details, and to learn where the amazing early photo below is from. As a bonus, I came upon this collection of pretty photos from AOL Movies, as well as a 1982 Letterman interview. Enjoy! _____ JUNE 2007 _______________ [June 20th] A Spattering of News Welcome to the patented Bullets 'n' Links method! Eugene becomes Canada's official spokesperson for Autism awareness and family support - CNW Group: news release - FEATOntario.org: Contains PDF of Eugene's press conference speech and lots of other info about the cause - Canada.com: Informative article - Canada.com: More; cute picture - globeandmail.com: More; another picture For you SCTV fans... - Bob and Doug McKenzie cookies! Walk of Fame stuff - Eugene on eTalk before Walk event; notice links on side for broadcast of event - One review of the Walk; mentions Eugene's skit with Joe Flaherty! Other goings-ons - Eugene talks about son Dan - globeandmail.com: Great interview and fantastic photo - Eugene's part of a new book about alma mater McMaster University - Source of these two pieces of info: "Catherine (O'Hara) and I have been talking about getting together and writing something," Levy said. "It's a ways off, maybe September, but I'm excited about that. I'm looking for things now that perhaps run a little deeper, a bit more adult in theme. I can't do the other stuff anymore. Except for American Pie, because that pays very well." (The truth finally exposed!) [June 6th] Walk Broadcast Date Hey all. Things have been crazy in the life of Jenny recently (leading to the use of third person, naturally), but I wanted to drop by quickly to remind Canadians that the 2007 Canada's Walk of Fame event, hosted by Mr. Levy, will be broadcast this coming Sunday, June 10 at 7 p.m. ET on CTV. (Just double check for local time disparities.) Be sure to tune in (and then tell me all about it)! I'll be around with better updates soon(...and there are some pretty sweet ones, trust me !!). The first? Eugene's presenting Catherine O'Hara with her award on Sunday. :) _____ MAY 2007 _______________ [May 11th] Eugene gets charitably creative! Mr. Levy has been busy lately! And for lots of lovely reasons. Makin' Teapots Eugene recently painted a pretty spectacular teapot (pictured above), which he titled "Not A Pretty Picture," to be sold in a benefit auction for the Toronto-based SickKids Foundation and its Hospital for Sick Children, the largest Canadian non-governmental child health granting agency. Catherine O'Hara, Amy Sky, Karen Kain, Chantal Kreviazuk, and Howie Mandel were some of the other celebs who also participated in the fun and worthy event. (Catherine's is pretty lovely, by the way.) "Where did you get the idea for your pot, Mr. Levy?" asks young Anna. "I looked in the mirror," he replies. "And I can't draw worth beans." Though he did admit his subtle technical brilliance: "It looks pretty basic, on the surface - but the [brush] stroking here is quite, quite amazing." When asked why he participated, Eugene responded: "Kids being kids. What you don't get is any discussion about what afflicts them. They're just kids having a tea party. It's the worst thing in the world that children have to go through pain and discomfort and they need a place like Sick Kids to make their lives easier. We should never take that hospital for granted." The auction will run from May 11th (today) until June 10th. You can find out more about the event, the artwork, and SickKids here: TorontoSun article The Vancouver Sun article http://www.sickkidsauctions.com/teafourtwo Eugene's teapot page The SickKids Foundation Assisting Assisted Living This Sunday, May 13th, Eugene will be helping the Shalom Village, an assisted living and long-term care facility in Hamilton, Ontario. Participating for his second time, Eugene's going to headline the event, a "fundraising cabaret" called Light Up the Future Too, which will feature singer Nancy White, the Mohawk College Jazz Trio and magician Adam Swaye. Eugene has an uncle, aunt, and cousin staying at Shalom Village, and had a few other relatives who lived there until their passing. "There is nothing institutional about the place. The word 'care' is at the top of the list. They just care so much for every resident that you almost want to move in yourself." The Village's website says the event is sold out, but "limited corporate sponsorship opportunities [are] still available." So um...get a corporation by Sunday! The Hamilton Spectator article Shalom Village Jewish Long Term Care Fame Walking And just a reminder, Canada's Walk of Fame event, which will be hosted by Eugene, is going to be taped on June 9th at Toronto's Hummingbird Centre and will be broadcast sometime later in the month. Word is that Eugene's busy with the show's writers, so the audience can expect some funny stuff, I'm sure. CTV article with some helpful tips about getting red carpet/event tickets All in all, Eugene's on a roll with a warm heart! (But we knew that already, right?) _____ APRIL 2007 _______________ [Apr. 28th] Checking in Hello all! I hope April's treated you well. I'd apologize for the lack of updates (what with me graduating from college soon and all, the workload is ridiculous), but there really haven't been too many to report. There was quite a bit of mention about Eugene's attendance at the Toronto opening of We Will Rock You, a new musical inspired by the classic band, Queen. The man appreciates some good tunes. Speaking of the man/The Man, my friend bought me a used copy last week. Of the movie, not Eugene. Did anybody else see that in theaters? Heck yeah. Till next time! [Apr. 6th] Pie Announcement Blahblahblah, read about the new movie, American Pie Presents: Beta House. The plot is about college kids. You know. Guess they're still looking for the lead girl; interested? Yeah. - Cinematical.com - Moviehole.net - DailyIndia.com _____ MARCH 2007 _______________ [Mar. 29th] He's gotta wear shades... Eugene visited the Mark Taper Forum in LA to see the opening of Lisa Loomer's play, "Distracted," featuring Rita Wilson last weekend. Some other celebs showed up like Martin Short, Steven Spielberg, and Xena! Eugene's just chillin' with the stars. By the way, have any of you seen the Pre-Teen World Telethon skits from SCTV? I saw them the other day, and Eugene plays an amazing 12 year old guitar player in a band called The Recess Monkeys, complete with Rick Moranis on electric and John Candy on drums. They sang Chilliwack's "My Girl (Gone Gone Gone)." It is amazing, simply amazing. I wish I could find it for you on YouTube, but no such luck. [Mar. 6th] More Pie? *grumblegrumble* It recently popped up on IMDb that yes, there will be yet another American Pie. American Pie 6 is in pre-production stage, and will be staight-to-video in 2008. There's virtually no other trace of this movie online, as far as I can tell, so we'll see what takes shape. So far Eugene is the only listed cast member. *sigh* James Schamus is slotted as the producer, with Adam Herz (who wrote the rest of them) as writer. It's being filmed in Toronto, too. After poking around a bit, I also found this November '06 Boston interview with Levy, from Wild About Movies... “It’s easy money,” he says, “and they (the studio) is great to me. I only need to be on the set for three days and I have a stipulation in my contract. I get to rewrite my scenes if I don’t like the way they were originally written. I try to be honest to the character and not waver from the way he was first presented on screen in the original ‘Pie.’ Will there be an ‘American Pie 6?’ I guess that all depends on how number 5 does.” Guess it did alright, guys. But what about this? That was a short-lived resolve. :/ [Mar. 1st] Eugene to host the 2007 Canada's Walk of Fame! Exciting news! At least for Canadians who can watch CTV. It was confirmed yesterday that Eugene will be hosting this year's Walk of Fame broadcast on June 9th at the Hummingbird Centre in Toronto, the tenth broadcast for the event and third for CTV. Eugene himself was inducted in 2006; eight new inductees will be announced next Tuesday. Eugene's thoughts: "It's such an incredible honour to be hosting the show this year, considering I have absolutely no wrestling experience," comparing himself to last year's host, WWE wrestler Trish Stratus. "Eugene is a warm and generous person who, through wit and self-deprecating charm will set the right tone for the broadcast," said Peter Soumalias, Founder, CEO and President of Canada's Walk of Fame. Indeed, Mr. Soumalias, indeed. Links: - CTV Official Announcement - The Official Site of Canada's Walk of Fame - Articles from The Gate (where the family photo is from!) and CBC Congrats to Eugene! It's sure to be a classy affair. Anyone want to tape it for me? Eh, eh? March 4, 2007 P.S. Happy Purim! ;) _____ FEBRUARY 2007 _______________ [Feb. 16th] Consider expanding your DVD collection! Ha! Get it!!? Um. Yeah. So while watching Nanny 911 and Wife Swap, I saw about four commercials for the U.S. DVD release of For Your Consideration. I mean...it's Friday night, um, I was...partying in high profile night clubs. When I saw the commercials. Yes. Hey look over there! My stimulating social life aside, the DVD will be released this coming Tuesday, February 20th. It will feature commentary by Guest and Levy (whee!), 18 deleted and alternate scenes, and outtakes, a Home for Purim poster gallery, and the theatrical trailer. And get this. IT'S IN COLOR. At least that's what Amazon.com says, but who can really trust those people. _____ JANUARY 2007 _______________ [Jan. 28th] UK's Consideration upcoming release highlights Eugene Alright, let's do this properly. For Your Consideration will be released in the UK on February 9th! Publicity is starting to trickle out, so check back here for the best links. Here are a couple to get you started: - An interesting interview with the FYC cast (heavy on Guest with sprinklings of Gervais, O'Hara, and Levy) from The Observer. - This bit of a gem from Scotsman.com offers an interview with Levy featuring his honest thoughts on the award season, some interesting info about his early days, and this pretty intriguing news: "I am looking for the kind of projects I haven't done before," he admits. "I don't want to get into the same comedies now. Maybe it's because I've just turned 60. I'm looking for something that's maybe a bit more adult. I've never turned down as many projects as I have in the last two years. I don't know if I want to play the Dad again. I can afford to wait for the projects that will take me in a different direction - a more interesting way for me to go." Sounds good to us, Eugene. Very good. [Jan. 26th] Old people and Australians might like Eugene Just a reminder to Aussies: For Your Consideration is now in theatres near you! Also, apparently the elderly appreciate a good Guest film. AARP Magazine has mentioned FYC as a runner-up for "Best Comedy for Grownups" in their Movies for Grownups Awards 2007. Pff, who needs an Oscar with that under your belt. Take that, Academy! [Jan. 4th] New Year bits and bobs Hello everyone! I hope you all enjoyed a pleasant holiday season and all that jazz! I've been fiddling with the site a bit, which you won't see for probably a few more days since things have been hectic. But there will be a news archive page, his work list will be updated, and other such things! Here's two fun facts for you: - For Your Consideration will open in Australia on January 25th. - And Ben Stiller liked SCTV as a young lad. Smart boy! Hope you're enjoying 2007 so far! EDIT: Fiddling has been accomplished. Pictures can now be found in the Bio section, the Work page has been updated, and a couple of things on the Links page changed. Also, you'll notice a link to the News Archive page at the bottom of this one; this way I can keep the main page from becoming ridiculously long. Whee! _____ DECEMBER 2006 _______________ [Dec. 19th] Paste appearance and Naked's out The Naked Mile is now out in stores...check it out if you enjoy Eugene and/or boobs. While doing a bit of Christmas shopping this afternoon, I happened to come upon the latest (December 06/January 07) issue of Paste magazine with a most wonderous cover, featuring Eugene, Christopher Guest, Catherine O'Hara, and Harry Shearer. The magazine, generally known for its debatable music reviews, takes a bit of a tangent in this issue by looking at a bunch of film stuff. The feature article is an interview with Christopher Guest, though it includes some nice photos of much of the cast, as well as mini-interviews with Harry Shearer and Michael McKean. I'm not entirely sure if the article's writer is truly annoying or was just attempting to be funny, but the interview itself (which you can read here) was fairly grating to the brain. The main culprit: a MYRIAD of randomly capitalized WORDS oh my GOODNESS make it STOP!! The highlight: A full page headshot of Eugene on one of the table of content pages. Pretty! The magazine does have a sampler CD which is pretty sweet, too, with these folks you should particularly pay attention to: Ron Sexsmith, Kevin Devine, and Hymns. (Yay favorite musicians plug!) [Dec. 17th] Eugene: Aging and Naked! First of all... That's right; today's his...60th birthday?! He's certainly done a good job of keeping his youthful glow. Share your favorite Eugene quotes today in honor! Tuesday the 19th marks the release of American Pie Presents: The Naked Mile in stores nationwide on DVD and suchlike. I'm not entirely sure what the deal is in other countries, but chances are, you can contain your excitement. Eugene returns once more as Mr. Levenstein, a.k.a. Jim's dad. In any case, here's some stuff to look at. - A bit of the possible story behind the movie's "Naked Mile" premise, apparently an old University of Michigan tradition. - A movie review and chance to grab a copy of the film for free from MoviesOnline. - Whee! Get your clicking finger ready: an official game! - And of course, the Naked Mile official website. [Dec. 7th] Checking in Sorry for the lack of updates! Hype for the movie is winding down, as is my college semester (FINAL'D!!!), so there's my excuse. I saw FYC and it was definitely the crazy spectacle we all heard about! I wrote my thoughts on it here in the forum, so that my ramblings wouldn't overtake this particular area. Share your opinions, if ya like. So, like I said, there isn't too much news, other than the release of Naked Mile in over a week. I'll keep you posted, however. I'll probably be fiddling with a few things during my winter break, just to move/add/clean up some stuff on the site, so there's something to look forward to. Sort of. There's no particular reason that this video is amazing, but for some reason the guy's accent is just more hilarious/cute to me than it should be. Also, his narration is just repeating what the actors say. http://www.youtube.com/v/o8WEE9whYB0 _____ NOVEMBER 2006 _______________ [Nov. 23rd] It's arrived! For Your Consideration is now officially in theatres!! Reviews abound, some fantastic, some mediocre, but when it comes down to it...how can we deny the greatness of anything Eugene? I've yet to see the movie (I'm waiting to see it with a friend from school after Thanksgiving break), but let everybody know what you think in the forum, if you're so inclined! I hope every one of you has a lovely Thanksgiving holiday, and even if you're not in America, eat some stuffing just for the heck of it! No, seriously, it's delicious. And don't forget...Eugene will be on with David Letterman tonight, CBS 11:30 EST. And that is a lot to be thankful for, indeed. :) [Nov. 15th] The perks of a movie release...interviews and TV spots! It seems if you look around for a few minutes online, you'll see a slew of new reviews and interviews with Guest, Levy, and a few others. Here's a highlighted few to check out: - FilmCAST Interview with Levy and Guest, in mp3 format; about 15 minutes of chatting with the guys about FYC, improv comedy, and lots of other stuff. - Crave Online talks to Levy and Guest. - MoviesOnline talks to Guest/Levy about the same stuff and Borat. We also link to videos from fans that have had some fun with Guest’s past movies." Just a reminder, the movie's opening in limited release on November 17th, but will be everywhere on the 22nd. Who's excited? P.S. Check out this new interview with Eugene from The Jewish Week, where he discusses the influence (or not) of Jewishness, FYC, his childhood, and his modest sex appeal. _____ OCTOBER 2006 _______________ [Oct. 31st] Greg the Bunny DVD collection and Pie release date Another DVD collection with Eugene is out, this time, the best of the film parodies from Greg the Bunny, the early 2000s TV show featuring Levy, Seth Green, and a bunch of puppets. And what a fantastic combo it is! Also, American Pie Presents: The Naked Mile is set to be released on DVD on December 19, 2006. Woo? Pays the bills, I guess. [Oct. 25th] FYC website and SCTV collection release Check out For Your Consideration's official website! http://wip.warnerbros.com/foryourconsideration It's got a lot of info, a picture gallery, downloadable desktops, and a rather catchy background song. Also, a new three-disc set entitled SCTV: Best of the Early Years featuring 15 episodes of early SCTV goodness is now available for purchase! You can read a bit about it here. [Oct. 17th] Hedge on DVD and stuff Hey all, hope life is swell. Just wanted to alert you that Dreamwork's summer movie, Over the Hedge, is available on DVD today. It features Eugene voicing the porcupine character of Lou, along with voices by such greats as Catherine O'Hara, William Shatner, Garry Shandling, Bruce Willis, Steve Carell, and...um, Avril Lavigne. It's a clever little movie, check it out. The soundtrack also features some new songs from singer/songwriter Ben Folds, who is also amazing. (I have a thing for piano men, so sue me.) And apparently Eugene has a future job opportunity if he ever wants to play Lewis Black. Check out Black being silly as usual here. A month from today = the release of For Your Consideration!! *coughcoughwhyhaven'tyousignedupfortheforumcoughcough* [Oct. 5th] Eugene, Harry Shearer, and a banana. A lovely lo- and hi-resolution screen cap of Eugene from For Your Consideration is available for view in the Work section; check out the specs! Snazzy. [Oct. 3rd] Eugene to co-host Gilda Radner benefit show Eugene, along with Erin McCormack of the now-defunct Will & Grace fame, will be co-hosting the Gilda's Club Greater Toronto's fifth annual "It's Always Something" variety show, as mentioned in this article. The Club, benefiting those suffering from cancer (gildasclub.org), was created in memory of Gilda Radner, comedic actress from SCTV and SNL. The benefit will also feature the Radio City Rockettes, Sandra Shamas and the 2006 Canadian Idol, Eva Avila. [Oct. 2nd] Exciting For Your Consideration news from Warner Brothers... The For Your Consideration trailer is now up on AOL Moviefone! Synopsis: Christopher Guest turns the camera on Hollywood for his next film, "For Your Consideration." The film focuses on the making of an independent movie and its cast who become victims of the dreaded awards buzz. Like Guest's previous films, "Waiting For Guffman", "Best In Show" and "A Mighty Wind", this latest project will feature performances from his regular ensemble, including co-writer Eugene Levy. Cast includes: Carrie Aizley, Bob Balaban, Ed Begley, Jr., Jennifer Coolidge, Paul Dooley, Ricky Gervais, Christopher Guest, Rachael Harris, John Michael Higgins, Michael Hitchcock, Don Lake, Eugene Levy, Jane Lynch, Michael McKean, Larry Miller, Christopher Moynihan, Catherine O'Hara, Jim Piddock, Parker Posey, Harry Shearer, Deborah Theaker, Fred Willard and Scott Williamson. Rated: PG-13 Scheduled to open: November 17, 2006 ******* I won't be able to properly update for a day or so, but I wanted to let everyone know that I've recently been in contact with someone over at Warner Brothers who is in charge of online publicity for For Your Consideration, the upcoming Christopher Guest movie! And it's very exciting indeed: Kishka will soon be an up-to-the-minute resource for the latest FYC news, clips, and whatever else comes my way! Be sure to check back soon. For now, check out FYC's official myspace.com page, recently created: http://myspace.com/for_your_consideration It offers screensavers, buddy icons, an exclusive clip from the movie (!), and undying friendship. _____ SEPTEMBER 2006 _______________ [Sept. 26th] Curious George Out on DVD The adorable animated movie of last spring, Curious George, was just released on DVD today. The film features Eugene's talents as the voice of the creative and confused Clovin. For anyone who hasn't seen this, check it out, it's not just for kids--very cute but in an entertaining and non-consdescending way. Also, the soundtrack by Jack Johnson and friends is wonderful! [Sept. 23rd] Kishka: Open for Eugene business! After about a year of collecting, coding, and fiddling between school and life, Bubi Made a Kishka is making its debut! About three years ago, I was introduced to Eugene Levy's work by a friend, and after seeing "A Mighty Wind" I was hooked for good. Since then, I've become familiar with much more of his work...some say obsessed, I say familiar. You know how it is. Anyhow, surfing around on the internet as time passed, I realized that there were multitudes of pages discussing Eugene Levy in one way or another, but--perhaps shockingly--no official website, and even worse, no official fansite! I knew there were plenty of hearty Eugene-loving folks out there, and so thought, it was about time for a place for them to gather. Eugene certainly gives us enough to talk about! And so here it is, for all to enjoy. Above you'll find links to some biographical information, a comphrehensive list of Eugene's work, fun and informative links, a few downloadables, and the usual site info. On this front page, I'll post the newest info about Eugene's happenings and projects...if you hear about anything before I do, let us know! Most important is the forum; here is a space to share your comments and findings about Eugene, and just to chat with like-minded fans! This site is a FAN site...so let's do Eugene proud. :) |
